This October, we invite you to take part in our Community Ofrenda, a special space of remembrance and celebration, open from October 1st through November 2nd. In honor of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the ofrenda will serve as a collective altar where community members can pay tribute to loved ones who have passed. 

Starting October 1, registrants and walk-in visitors are welcome to bring items and photos to add to the community ofrenda. 

You're welcome to contribute photos, notes, small mementos, paper marigolds, or other meaningful items to help build this shared expression of memory, family, and love - see our full guidelines below. 

We are deeply grateful for every photo, memento, and story shared, which together transform our space into a vibrant reflection of memory and tradition.

Ofrenda Building Guidelines     

Installation begins October 1 and goes through November 2. Please make sure you can remove your ofrenda by November 3 before signing up to build!   

Materials     

Please use natural, biodegradable, or reusable materials whenever possible.   

Recommended 

• Cardboard, paperboard, or reclaimed wood   

• Cloth (cotton, muslin, linen) for table coverings   

• Fresh or dried flowers, leaves, seed pods   

• Papel picado    

• Clay or ceramic vessels, gourds, baskets to place offerings into 

• Beeswax candles (unlit) or LED tealights    

• Photographs   

• Salt   

• Mementos representing hobbies, passions, or the identity of the deceased   

Avoid

• Plastic, Styrofoam, vinyl, glitter, or synthetic fabrics   

• Single-use decorations that cannot be composted or reused   

• Perishable food, open beverages, or oversized items.    

• Photos or symbolic representations of food and drink are encouraged instead of the real thing.  

Dimensions   

If making an altar, each altar must fit on provided tables lining the walls.   

Photograph or Memento-only: Bring a photograph (max of 8x10) and post it on the bulletin board space. Push pins provided, or participants may use photo-safe double-sided tape. Mementos can be placed throughout the exhibition space. 

Small: Up to 12”x12” (your ofrenda can be smaller than these dimensions as well)   

Medium: 16” x 16”   

Large: 20” x 20” (maximum footprint)   

Height: Maximum of 36” above table surface   

Ofrendas need to be stable and able to withstand the potential of tables being bumped into.    

Please make sure you can remove your ofrenda by November 3 before signing up to build. After this date, our team will need to return the Greene Room to its usual state and we do not want to throw away personal items.

Este otoño, leos invitamos a participar en nuestro Ofrenda de la Comunidad, un espacio especial de recuerdo y celebración, abierta del 1 de Octubre hasta el 2 de Noviembre. En honor de Día de los Muertos, la ofrenda servirá como un altar colectivo donde miembros de la comunidad pueden rendir homenaje a los seres queridos que han fallecido.  

A partir del 1 de octubre, visitantes pueden traer objetos pequeños y fotografías para añadir a la ofrenda.

Guías de Construcción de las Ofrendas 

La instalación comienza el 1 de Octubre y se extiende hasta el 2 de Noviembre. ¡Asegúrese de poder recoger su ofrenda no mas tarde del 3 de Noviembre antes de registrarse para construir! 

Materiales  

Por favor, use materiales naturales, biodegradables, or reutilizables cuando sea posible. 

Recomendado 

• Cartón, papel, o madera recuperada 

• La tela (algodón, muselina, lino) para cubrimientos 

• Flores frescas y secas, hojas, o semillas 

• Papel picado   

• Vasijas de cerámica y de arcilla, calabazas, canastas  

• Velas de cera de abeja (apagados) o velas LED (Velas de fuego no están permitidas) 

• Fotografías  

• Sal 

• Recuerdos que representan pasatiempos, pasiones, o la identidad de los difuntos 

Evita 

• Plástico, polystireno, vinilo, brillantina, telas sintéticas 

• Decoraciones de un solo uso que no se pueden compostar ni reutilizar 

• Comida perecedera, bebidas abiertas, o objetos grandes.   

• En lugar de eso, animamos fotografías o representaciones simbólicas de comida y bebidas. 

Dimensiones  

Cada altar debe caber en las mesas provistas que recubren las paredes. 

Sola fotografía o recuerdo: Trae una fotografía (el máximo es 8x10) y puede ponerlo en el tablón. Nos proveeremos tachuelas, o participantes pueden traer cinta de doble cara. Se pueden colocar recuerdos a lo largo del espacio expositivo. 

Pequeña: Hasta 12”x12” (su ofrenda puede ser mas pequeña que las dimensiones también)  

Media: 16” x 16”  

Grande: 20” x 20” (como máximo)  

Altura: Maximo de 36" encima de la mesa 

Ofrendas necesitan ser estable y sólido, in caso de que alguien chocará contra las mesas.
